Job Title: Funding Manager

Employer: Home-Start Camden and Islington

Responsible to: CEO and Board of trustees

Responsible for: Securing funding, building relationships with stakeholders, reporting on fundraising activities and outcomes and supporting the delivery of the organisation’s strategic aims

Salary Range: £33,500 to £36,710

Location: Home-Start Camden and Islington Office, Kentish Town (currently option of hybrid home and office working is available)

Job Type: 35 hours a week

Holidays: 25 days per annum

 

Background

Home-Start Camden and Islington is a voluntary organisation committed to promoting the welfare of families with at least one child under five years of age. Supported by dedicated and experienced staff, our volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families under stress in their own homes, helping to prevent family crisis and breakdown.

We have secured funding to expand from our historic base in Camden to also deliver support to families in Islington, and have a strong track record of securing funding from a range of charitable trusts and major grant funders such as the Big Lottery.

 

Role Description

The Funding Manager is a key senior management role responsible for securing funding and maintaining relationships with funders.  The role is responsible for building partnerships and supporting the CEO and board in developing and delivering the organisation’s strategy.

 

Core Responsibilities

  • Prepare, researching and submitting grant applications to Trusts and Foundations or other funders, with support from the CEO as required.
  • Identify new funders and funding streams and help to generate income to cover our budgeted annual costs.
  • Maintain relationships with new and existing funders to engage their support
  • Support the Head of Delivery around volunteer engagement and the volunteer programme.
  • Support the CEO to build a range of partnerships within the local community
  • Support the CEO with stakeholder engagement including working with the board
  • Assist and support the CEO, Head of Delivery and Board of Trustees in delivering the strategic aims of the organisation, specifically around fundraising, communications and impact measurement
  • Represent and participate at external events and meetings to promote HSC&I
  • Actively contribute to expanding the role and influence of the Home-Start London consortium in the wider London area
  • Provide ongoing reporting and monitoring of HSC&I’s financial situation with support from the Treasurer and Book-keeper
  • Provide reports to funders on progress against key performance measures
  • Oversee our channels of communication with a range of stakeholders
  • Understand the impact of legislative, changing political, economic and social climate on our work, and share this knowledge within the team

 

Personal Specification / Attributes  

The Funding Manager will have a track record of delivering results through excellent organisational skills. The successful candidate will be a confident communicator, be self-motivated, results focussed and have a continuous improvement mind-set to enhance our internal processes and procedures. They will be able to collaborate and work as part of a team.  The ability to generate income and manage funding relationships is essential.

 

Essential knowledge and skills

  • Understanding of funding requirements including experience of successfully securing funding from a range of sources
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and able to present information and data effectively and persuasively in a range of formats and to a range of stakeholders
  • Experience of successful project management and reporting
  • Good understanding of budgeting, funding and finance within the charity sector
  • Ability to analyse and interpret data to spot trends and anomalies
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a varied workload, working to tight deadlines
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office suite including Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint

 

Preferred experience but not essential

  • Experience of understanding safeguarding with children and working with families
  • Experience of working with organisations in social services or health or in the voluntary sector
