Behind the Lens: Q&A with Producer Ben Heath

Cradle was brought to life through a shared commitment to telling real stories with honesty and heart – and for Producer Ben Heath, that mission was impossible to resist. In this behind-the-scenes Q&A, Ben reflects on why he felt compelled to support Home-Start London, the moments on set that stayed with him, and what he hopes audiences understand about the families at the centre of the film.

What inspired you to get involved/take part?
I was inspired to get involved in this film because I think it’s important to support charities with causes I can believe in and having the scope and flexibility to make something unique and special is the cherry on top.

Can you describe the film in 3 words?
Tender, inspiring, and non-judgemental.

Why should someone support Home-Start?
Someone should support Home-start because it’s a cause that can help secure better futures for the next generation of children and families that need it the most. Small actions can often make the biggest difference in people’s lives.

What was your favourite moment during filming?
My favourite moment during filming was watching Suzette (the volunteer) interact with Beatrix (the child), particularly when playing together. Capturing authentic moments between the pair felt very special.

What do you hope audiences take away from the film?
I hope audiences can take away some understanding of the different and potentially struggling family dynamics that exist in the world, and what Home-start is doing to help.

Cradle was created to shine a light on the vital, life-changing support Home-Start provides to families across London. If you’re inspired by the stories behind the film, find out more about volunteering with your local Home-Start here.
