Home-Start Perinatal Mental Health Support Makes the World of Difference

Home-Start London is delighted to share the results of our Perinatal Mental Health Pilot Project (PMH), which demonstrate the impact and the unique and complementary support service offered by Home-Start’s trained volunteers and expert staff alongside NHS PMH services.

Conducted in partnership with the Central North-West London (CNWL) NHS Foundation Trust, the project supported 89 mothers with mild to moderate PMH needs across five London boroughs. The Home-Starts delivering support were Home-Start Hillingdon; Home-Start Barnet, Brent, Enfield and Harrow in Brent & Harrow; and Home-Start Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham in Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea.

Through the project an effective working partnership was developed between Home-Start and NHS community PMH services and Home-Start was able to expand and enrich CNWL’s specialist services.  Home-Start schemes were also able to develop their services through the mutual sharing of learning, training and expertise as well as opening up a vital pathway into the NHS. We are delighted that the partnership will continue into 2023.

Elli Josephs, Home-Start PMH Lead said: “Our collaboration with CNWL means we can provide high quality support to women that need it when they need it most. We are so pleased to continue working alongside CNWL’s community PMH teams, combining their clinical expertise with Home-Start’s holistic family support to ensure more women and their families receive appropriate, timely support.”

Home-Start London is always looking for opportunities to extend our PMH work supporting mothers and families across London.  Interested in having a conversation?  Contact us: manager@home-startlondon.org
