Home-Start London partners with NHS Central North West London to support women experiencing perinatal
mental health difficulties
Home-Start London is delighted to announce the launch of a new Perinatal Mental Health (PMH) Peer Support
Project in partnership with Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust. The 12-month project
builds on a successful pilot completed earlier this year.
Trained Home-Start volunteers will provide practical and emotional support through weekly home visits to 50
women referred to community PMH services. The project will be delivered across five boroughs by Home-Start Hillingdon; Home-Start Barnet, Brent, Enfield, and Harrow; and Home-Start Westminster, RBKC, Hammersmith and Fulham.
The compassionate, personalised support that Home-Start volunteers provide makes a real difference. As one
mum who participated in the pilot said, “Without Home-Start I wouldn’t be where I am today. They have
helped me with my confidence, self-esteem, and my anxiety…I’ve been encouraged to go for things that I
never would have before.”
Denise Sullivan, CNWL PMH Clinical Services Lead, said: “The Home-Start project with CNWL is a wonderful
initiative through which we can provide further support for women and their families improving engagement,
confidence, and general wellbeing. The support has been valued by families and CNWL alike. We look forward
to building on our existing relationship for the benefit of the families we work to support.”
Elli Josephs, Home-Start PMH Lead said: “The economic and social hardship many families are facing at the
moment can increase the risk of perinatal mental health problems. We are so pleased to continue to work
alongside CNWL’s community PMH teams, combining their clinical expertise with Home-Start’s holistic family
support to ensure more women and their families receive appropriate, timely support.”
